Joint Information Center

In the unlikely event of an emergency, the WIPP Joint Information Center (JIC) serves as a central control point to coordinate multi-agency efforts to issue timely and accurate information to the public, news media and project employees.

The public
If the JIC is activated, members of the general public, including family members, may call (575) 234-7380 for up-to-date information. They are also encouraged to monitor local television and radio stations. Stakeholders outside the local area may also call the WIPP Information Center's toll-free number, 1-800-336-WIPP (9477).

News media
If the JIC is activated, news media will be provided with specific telephone numbers to call for up-to-date information. Reporters are encouraged to gather at the JIC at 4021 National Parks Highway in Carlsbad, where periodic news conferences will be held.

Employees
If the JIC is activated, employees will be notified by public address system announcements and/or e-mail announcements. Employees are asked to direct any inquiries from the public or media to the JIC.
